A dog owner spends an average of €517 per year on pet food (Facco-Odoxa Barometer 2026). They return to the store every time they finish a bag, but they split their purchases between supermarkets, pet stores, online retailers, and garden centers—where only 14% of dog owners buy pet food. At the same time, prices for pet products have been falling since April 2024, and specialized websites are slashing prices in waves. Applying “garden” rules to the pet food aisle means losing customers on the prices they compare and giving up profit margins where they don’t compare.
