Small appliances: an impulse-buy section that isn't managed the same way as the large appliance section

A small household appliance sells for an average of around €70, and November accounted for more than 15% of the department’s sales in 2025 (GfK, cited by Univers Habitat, March 2026). Coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, personal care products: these are impulse purchases, often given as gifts, with brands displaying their own prices online. Yet many retailers still manage this department using the same rules as for large appliances.

This white paper explains why small appliances are managed based on thresholds, schedules, and roles rather than on a model-by-model basis: budget categories that drive demand spikes, a peak sales period in November that is prepared for before the start of the school year, brand websites and marketplaces that set price limits, and consumables that contribute to a portion of the margin. Audited figures from 2025 and 2026 (Gifam, NielsenIQ GfK, Ifop for leDénicheur, Groupe SEB).
